. Bilaspur State is a hill state, in the Simla "^ls. Its area is 452 square miles; the average altitude is 3,000 feet though some of the hills ] jse to a height of 6,000 feet or over. Most of t'le land is under cultivation, and the crops Senerally grown are maize, wheat and rice. The y?urce of irrigation is chiefly rain water. The staple diet of the public is maize and dal, with occasionally wheat, rice, fish, meat and vegetables. I have come across many cases of vitamin-deficiency diseases here, the chief being pellagra, and second to it is scurvy. I have come across scurvy more commonly in females. The cases treated have been between the ages of 20 and 45. The cases have been seen at all
